Horse Joining

Connect with a horse while learning self-awareness, collaborative leadership, and self-care.

Horse Sense

Horses are very relational and sensitive. Did you know that they can hear your heartbeat from 50 feet away? Many horse experts believe that they can read moods, detect feelings (like anxiety), and sense incongruence in the emotions of people and animals around them.

This makes horses incredibly helpful as living breathing barometers of what is going on inside of us humans. They often seem to detect our feelings before us. Hence, we love using them to help people learn self-awareness and self-management.

Creating Connections

To connect with a horse it's helpful to develop and demonstrate:

Self-awareness
Self-soothing
Patience
Collaborative Leadership
Authenticity
Openness
And more.

You can try to fool them. They will read you. You can try to bully them. They are 1000+ lbs.

A good connection with a horse requires connection with yourself, just like all good relationships.

Meet the Horses

What happens at a Horse Joining session?

  • During the first 5 minutes, you and your equine specialist will set goals for the session
  • You'll be invited into the arena with one or more horses
  • Based on your goals your equine specialist will either lead you through structured or unstructured exercises
  • Your equine specialist may teach your horsemanship and connection skills, depending on your goals
  • At the end of the session you'll debrief with your equine specialist

Note that all sessions happen on the ground, face-to-face with the horses. This is where the magic happens. While riding horses is also beneficial, that puts you in a dominant position. On the ground work tends to create a more mutually connected and bonded experience with a horse.
